Position Summary
The CNC Swiss Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC Swiss type lathes to produce precision components according to engineering specifications. This role requires strong machining knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC Swiss-type machines (e.g., Citizen, Star, Tsugami).
- Select and install tooling, collets, guide bushings, and fixtures.
- Load programs and make necessary offsets, edits, and adjustments.
- Run first-piece inspections and verify part conformance before production.
Production & Quality
- Manufacture precision parts to tight tolerances (often ±.0002 or tighter).
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, optical comparators, and other precision measurement tools.
- Monitor machine performance and part consistency throughout the production run.
- Document quality checks and maintain accurate production records.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose machining issues—chatter, poor surface finish, tool wear, chip control, etc.—and take corrective action.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and tool replacement.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, or programmers to resolve technical problems.
Qualifications
Required
- 2–5 years of CNC Swiss machining experience (or equivalent technical training).
- Strong understanding of Swiss-type turning, tool geometries, and cutting parameters.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.
- Proficient with precision measurement tools.
- Familiarity with G-code and the ability to make minor program edits.
Preferred
- Experience with medical, aerospace, or high-precision manufacturing.
- Knowledge of multi-axis Swiss machines (5-axis, 7-axis, 12-axis, etc.).
- Experience with CAD/CAM or programming (Esprit, PartMaker, Mastercam).
- Ability to optimize speeds/feeds and improve cycle
